He transferred to Wyndham College in Vermont, and then completed
his undergraduate education at Goddard College in Vermont where he received his Bachelor
of Fine Arts. Since 1983, Riis has been designing and hand-fabricating exquisite abstract metal sculpture. His Northern California "Wine Country" foothill property is home to his 4,000 square foot studio, as well as his family's residence. |

In addition to hand-fabricating tabletop, wall and large
free-standing sculpture, Riis spends his time planting and tending his bonsai,
succulent and cactus gardens interspersed with fish ponds and colorful flowering
plants that bloom virtually all year long. He enjoys camping in the Sierras and
sailing, but lately has had to content himself with building and sailing detailed
model sailboats for which he designs and fabricates many of his own parts. But at
least in one area, the toy is full size--motorcycle riding. Wine Country is ideal
for breathtaking rides. |
